Air travel is getting safer when compared to when I was growing up in 60’s and 70’s. I can remember air crashes and hijackings on a pretty regular basis. But I was from a poor family and we couldn’t afford tickets. I flew on a jet for the first time when going home for Christmas leave during my first year in the Army. The flight was 30 minutes each leg (SAT to DFW to OKC). Now everyone flies yet air crashes are very, very rare. The reason I don’t fly any longer has to do with the way my fellow passengers act and the way the airlines treat you like cattle. I have a great deal of confidence in the main airlines safety (Six Sigma).. I remember on mission in Central America and was catching a flight from San Jose to Panama City where I was stationed. (TICA). I checked in. The stewardess said it’ll be a few minutes go have a drink and we’ll come get you. About half hour later she came up to me in the bar and said everyone had checked in and we were leaving early! They had champagne on that flight. That was in 95. After being in the jungle and sleeping rough it was a nice touch of civilization! She gave me a very generous pat down prior to departing too….
